n he’s sad, he wants to talk to me. In short, he loves me very much,” the girl blurted out all at once, as if afraid someone might cut her off.
The assistant thought to herself: If he loves you that much, why keep running from one Tarot shop to another?
—“You can think back to your happiest outing together—picture a specific scene. You can speak it aloud or keep it to yourself—then we’ll begin,” Melaap said.
—“I…” The girl rubbed her left index finger. She pressed hard enough that the veins on her wrist stood out. After a moment, she went on: “We slept together…”
—“Was that the happiest story? Can we begin then?” Melaap laid out three decks—one main, two secondary.
—“No… I…” The girl stammered.
—“Then pick another happy story,” Melaap continued.
—“Why does it have to be a happy story? Of all the places I’ve been, this is the only one that forces people to tell stories. This is an invasion of privacy!” The girl suddenly snapped, raising her voice.
Melaap only looked at her calmly for a couple of seconds, then took a sip of tea.
—“Your name is Gia Han—it means your days are meant to be lived in joy. A name is a pass for a soul entering this life. Living up to your name is also a way to make life lighter. Or put another way, a name is the universe’s reminder of your individual life lesson in this incarnation. When Gia Han took her first breath and cried, the universe and those who love you only wanted Gia Han to grow happier with every passing day.”
By the time Melaap finished speaking, tears were already rolling down the girl’s face. She buried her head in her hands, sobbing aloud.
